Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the uMaps app and website (together, "the service"), operated by EFN Group LLC. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
01What uMaps is — and isn't
uMaps is a community atlas of publicly documented historic, abandoned, and urban-exploration sites. It exists to document what already stands, record its condition, and keep its community honest about hazards and access.
uMaps does not encourage, endorse, or assist unlawful entry. A listing is a historical record, not an invitation, a permission, or a statement that entry is lawful. Access notes lead with legal routes — tours, permits, and open-to-the-public hours. You are solely responsible for knowing and obeying the laws that apply wherever you go.
02Eligibility & accounts
- You must be at least 17 years old to use uMaps.
- You are responsible for your account, its credentials, and everything done with it. One account per person; don't impersonate anyone.
- You can delete your account at any time in-app (Profile → Delete account) — deletion is permanent and removes your profile and contributions.
03The Explorer's Code & acceptable use
Every member accepts the Explorer's Code before using the service, and it is a binding part of these terms:
- Take only pictures. No vandalism, theft, tagging, or moving artifacts — in the field or in what you document.
- Never force entry. Don't break, cut, pry, or climb past a seal, and don't post content that instructs others to.
- Respect the fuzz. Never republish, screenshot-share, or otherwise disclose exact coordinates or access notes outside the app. The deliberate blur on public pins is a load-bearing safety feature.
- Your risk is yours. See section 06.
In addition, you may not: post content that is unlawful, harassing, or doxxes any person; upload content you don't have rights to; interfere with or probe the service's security; scrape or bulk-export the atlas; or use the service to plan or coordinate unlawful activity. We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate any of this, with or without notice.
04Your content
- You keep ownership of what you submit — spots, photos, reviews, and logs.
- You grant EFN Group LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (e.g. fuzzing a location, resizing a photo), and display that content as part of operating and promoting the service.
- New site submissions enter a pre-publication moderation queue and become publicly visible only after review. Moderators may edit metadata, re-fuzz, reclassify, or decline any submission.
- You promise your submissions are accurate to your knowledge and that you had lawful access when you documented them.
- If you delete your account, community contributions may be retained in anonymized form to preserve the integrity of the shared record, as described in the Privacy Policy.
05The location model
Published pins are deliberately approximate. Exact coordinates and access notes unlock only through earned community reputation or contribution-earned keys, or for a spot's own author. Reputation, keys, and unlocks are features of the service, not property: they have no cash value, are never sold, can't be transferred, and may be adjusted, revoked, or reset — including as a moderation action. The highest-risk sites never unlock with keys and remain limited to the most trusted tier. A paid subscription never unlocks exact locations.
Location data, hazard tags, difficulty ratings, and access notes are community-supplied field reports. They may be wrong, incomplete, or out of date the moment they're published. We make no promise that any of it is accurate — conditions at abandoned sites change without warning.
06Safety & assumption of risk
Read this section carefully. Abandoned and decaying structures are inherently dangerous. Hazards include — without limitation — structural collapse, falls, asbestos and other toxic materials, bad air, flooding, sharp debris, live electricity, wildlife, and other people.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, by using uMaps you acknowledge and agree that: (a) any decision to travel to, approach, or enter any location is yours alone; (b) you voluntarily assume all risk of property damage, injury, or death arising from that decision; (c) uMaps content does not constitute advice that any site is safe or lawful to visit; and (d) EFN Group LLC and its contributors have no duty to inspect sites, verify conditions, or warn you of hazards.
07uMaps Pro subscriptions
- uMaps Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription ($35.99/year or $5.99/month, each with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers), billed through your Apple ID.
- It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in the App Store (your name → Subscriptions). Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies.
- Pro provides convenience features only (such as the satellite layer, ranked sorting, unlimited saves, and custom lists). It never grants exact locations, access notes, keys, or reputation.
- Prices and included features may change; changes apply from your next renewal and never retroactively charge you.
08Intellectual property
The service — including the uMaps name, mark, design system, and software — is owned by EFN Group LLC or its licensors and protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. Community content belongs to its authors (section 04).
09Termination
You can stop using the service or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time — including for violating these terms or the Explorer's Code — and may remove content that violates them. Sections 04–06 and 10–12 survive termination.
10Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content (including locations and hazard information) is correct.
11Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, EFN Group LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including personal injury, death, property damage, lost profits, or lost data — arising from your use of the service or your presence at any location documented in it. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
12Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless EFN Group LLC from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these terms or of any law.
13Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be signalled in-app or by email, and the "last updated" date above always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
14Governing law & contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which EFN Group LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that state.

Plain-language summary (the terms above control): document honestly, enter legally, keep exact locations inside the app, and know that stepping into a ruin is your call and your risk — not ours, and not the person's who mapped it.
