02Common questions
Why are map pins approximate?
By design. Published locations are fuzzed — offset within a radius shown on the pin — to protect fragile and sensitive sites from being doxxed by their own map. Every public pin says "area approximate"; that's a feature, not a bug.
How do exact locations unlock?
Two earned paths: build community reputation by documenting sites and logging visits (the atlas opens at 50), or spend a key. A spot's own author always sees their exact record. The most dangerous sites — severe difficulty or lethal hazards — never unlock with keys, only at the top reputation tier.
What are keys?
Contribution credit. When a site you submitted with photos passes moderator review, you mint one key. Spending a key permanently unlocks one site's exact coordinates and access notes for you. Keys are never sold, and no subscription grants them.
What does uMaps Pro include?
Satellite map layer, a ranked index, unlimited saves and custom lists — with more field tools rolling out. Pro never unlocks exact locations — that stays earned.
How do I report or block someone?
Report any listing from its page (Report). Block any member from their field-log entry (··· → Block) or via Report → "Block the documenter" — their spots, logs, and photos disappear from your app. Unblock anytime under Profile → Blocked accounts.
How do I manage my subscription?
In the App Store: your name → Subscriptions → uMaps. Plans, the free trial, and cancellation are all handled there by Apple.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile → Delete account (permanent, removes your profile and contributions). Or email us from your account address and we'll remove your data within 30 days.
03Safety
uMaps documents existing sites and does not encourage unlawful entry. Always follow posted laws and access notes, which lead with legal routes. Decaying structures are dangerous — the decision to step inside is yours alone. The full terms are in the Terms of Service.
